Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor New Bollywood Film Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu Movie Review:
Bollywood loves romance. And when a film comes from the house Karan Johar, the expectations are bound to be sky high! He brings together a new director Shakun Batra and the pair of Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor for the first time.
Story and Movie Analysis:
EMAET(Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu) is story of Rahul Kapoor whose life is dominated by his elitist and sophisticated parents for whom rules and regulations comes first. As a result Rahul turns out to be a nerd with low self esteem who gets thrown out of his architectural firm. Rihana Briganza is the exact opposite. She is bubbly, effervescence and very stylish. One night over drinks in Las Vegas both get married! They decide to file for annulment the very next morning when they realise the mistake. However, they become good friends in the following few days. Needless to say a love story blooms in too.
On paper, EMAET is an exciting story. The writers, Shakun and Ayesha, however could not really convert it into a great screenplay. The film fails to warm you up. The intermission surprises you more because nothing happens till then than an exciting freeze point. In comparison the latter half is tighter but by then your enthusiasm dips low.
The film is funny in parts. One-liners are very far and between. Having said that, the ones that are there are quite good. The highlight of the film, without a doubt, is the climax. It mirrors the wishes of many among the youth today… something they would love to do but would never do!
Performance wise, Kareena Kapoor is in top form reminding us of her great act in Jab We Met. She looks fresh, much younger and her face just lightens up the screens. She is effortless and each of expressions would make you fall in love with her! Imran looks his part – the nerd and the dude as required from time to time in the story. His restraint works for the character. Ratna Pathak Shah as usual is tremendously entertaining.
Technical and Other Departments:
The soundtrack of EK MAIN AUR EKK TU suits the tastes of urbane listeners. While composer Amit Trivedi comes up with sprightly tracks like ‘Auntyji’ and the saccharine sweet title track, he also ensures that tracks like ‘Gubbare’ linger in your memory. EK MAIN AUR EKK TU sweeps you off your feet for one more reason: the stunning visuals [DoP: David Mac Donald]. The dazzling locales of Las Vegas are captured with aplomb on celluloid by the ace cinematographer.
Shakun Batra does have a fine storyteller in him. He is not the typical Bollywood rom-com director but far more subtle, which is his forte. If only he had worked more on the screenplay his debut film as a director would have been so much better. Overall, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is a fun one-time watch this Valentines season if you are looking to hit the theaters with your loved ones. Else, there are always the evergreen love stories that you can catch up in the warm of your own couch!
