Jab Tak Hai Jaan (Until there is life) is an upcoming 2012 Bollywood film directed Yash Chopra, written and produced by Aditya Chopra under their production house Yash Raj Filmsand it is supposed to be the last film directed by Yash Chopra. The film features Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles, making it the first film to pair Khan and Kaif and the second collaboration between Khan and Sharma after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The film would be Yash Chopra's fourth film to feature Shahrukh Khan in the lead role and it marks his return as a director after eight years, his last film being Veer-Zaara in 2004.
The background score and soundtrack will be composed by A. R. Rahman while the lyrics penned by Gulzar. The film is scheduled to release on the Six-day Diwali weekend which begins on 13 November 2012.

In June 2011, Yash Raj Films released a statement announcing a new directorial venture by Yash Chopra, which would coincide with the 50th anniversary of his career in Bollywood. The producers also announced that film would release on the Diwali weekend of 2012. According to Chopra, the film was planned in early 2009, but he did not want Khan to work on any film other than his simultaneously. In an interview with The Telegraph, he said, "My film is an emotional film. It is not comedy, action, escapism ... This is what we call an internal film. There are only three characters [and] their emotions, happiness, sadness."

He also stated that the film was untitled as of that time, similar to his previous film Veer-Zaara which was named on the day of its submission to the Central Board of Film Certification. The producers had considered a variety of options but were reportedly not satisfied. In September 2012, it was officially announced that the title of the movie is Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The title seeming to have been inspired from a song of the same name from the 1975 hit film Sholay.

Initially, the film's principal photography was expected to commence in November 2011. However, it had to be delayed since Khan had wanted to take a break after his two releases in 2011, Ra.One and Don 2. Principal photography officially commenced on 9 January 2012 at the Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai, where a significant portion of the film was completed.

After the schedule in India, the crew began a 35-day filming schedule in London beginning on February 22, 2012. The film was shot under a working title of Production 45. Khan arrived in London on March 21, 2012 and completed filming his appearance on March 26. During filming photos of the actors on the sets were leaked on the Internet, inciting a camera ban by the producers and an increase in the amount of security for the film's production. A number of locations throughout the city featured in the film, including the Borough Market, Jubilee Walk, the Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf. A key action sequence was filmed at Shepherd's Bush by closing down four streets in the area. The schedule was completed on March 27, 2012 at an indoor location in East London. The romantic scenes of the film were directed by Chopra's son Aditya Chopra, due to the difference in age between the latter and the lead actors. The climax of the film, initially planned by Chopra to be shot in the mountains of Kashmir, was relocated to Ladakh. This was apparently a suggestion of Khan, whose movie Dil Se.. had been shot in area. However, portions of the film were later filmed in three different cities in Kashmir — Srinagar, Pahalgam & Gulmarg.

The teaser trailer was released along with the film release of Ek Tha Tiger as well as through the firm's official YouTube channel on August 15, 2012. The one and half minute clip showed glimpse of Yash Chopra's successful yet acclaimed earlier romantic directorial ventures and then highlighted his upcoming film. Yet again, the film remained untitled as "A Yash Chopra Romance". The teaser crossed over one million views in less than three days.

The main theatrical trailer of nearly 2.5 minutes featuring the film title was released on 20 September 2012 through Yash Raj Film's official Youtube channel. It received a tremendous response on YouTube with 1 million views in the first day. It became the first ever film trailer to receive 1 million views in just 1 day in the history of Bollywood.[citation needed] It has also broken the record of Breaking Dawn part II for getting most likes in less than 15 hours.

The soundtrack for the film will be composed by A. R. Rahman, while lyrics are penned by Gulzar. The first song of the film was completed in December 2011. In February 2012, Rahman told in an interview with The Times of India that he had completed three songs for the film. A part of the lyrics of the title song were released prior to the launch of the soundtrack. Singer Neeti Mohan making her debut in playback singing, Shakthisree Gopalan, Harshdeep Kaur & Javed Ali have recorded songs for the film. Eventually, it was confirmed that Rabbi Shergill had sung the lines in the first trailer of the film, also recording a song with Rahman for the first time in his career.
