Manchu Lakshmi New Film Gundello Movie Review:

Lakshmi Manchu’s latest production Gundello Godari is one of highly-talked about and most-awaited Telugu movies. It was to release in November 2013, but due to unavailability of enough number of theatres, the movie had to be delayed. Its promos have soared up the viewers’ curiosity to sky high. The long wait is worth as the film will satisfy you.

An ill-fated couple’s – Malli (Aadi) and Chitra (Lakshmi Prasanna) – wedding turns into nightmare as floods submerge their village. They lose all hope but fight to survive. Before death parts them, Malli tells Chitra about the girl who came to their wedding and presented him a gift. Malli (Aadi) is a fisherman and his only dream is to own a boat. He works for a merchant whose teenage daughter (Tapsee) is fascinated by his masculine looks and forces him to love her. That makes his life miserable. Chitra too narrates her own story to her hubby that she was an orphan raised by an aunty. She loves the aunty’s son Soori (Sandeep Kishan). They are poor and her employer (Ravi Babu) and a doctor tries to take her miserable condition. How Malli and Chitra get married? Would they survive the devastating floods?

Artists Performances:

Adi Pinisetti is raw and fabulous with his spotless portrayal of a fisherman character. His experience in Tamil films has come in handy in portraying raw emotions and he has maintained rustic look throughout. Lakshmi Manchu is good a girl who is in an emotional turmoil. There will be a lot of sympathy to this character. Sundeep Kishan suited the role very well and his dialect is good. Tapsee is the eye candy of the film with sensuous look and lusty characterization. She looks really good in sarees. Ravi Babu has a brief and effective role. Jeeva, Annapurna and Pruthvi did well. Mumaith Khan has sizzled in an item song.

Technical And Other Departments:

Kumar Nagendra has chosen and wonderful story and he has got good grip on the tempo. The director manages to run the show without boring you. Ilayaraja’s music is the main highlight in the technical front. All his compositions are soothing and melodious and surely add to the narration of the story. His background helps the director to elevate the intensity and emotional sequences.
MR Palanikumaar’s picturisation is another attraction in the movie. Especially, he has done brilliant work in flood and romantic scenes. Gundello Godari has huge amount CGI work, which is also a highlight. Especially, the visual in the climax sequences will surely leave you spell bound. Another aspect to be commended is its art direction.

Movie Analysis:

Gundello Godari is a love story that is set against the backdrop of 1986 floods of Godavari. It’s a movie with raw emotions and realistic content. It’s very easy to produce and market an eye-candy films with entertainment quotient. But Lakshmi Manchu has taken a brave decision of making a different movie without compromising on any aspect. Plus points of the film are casting, realistic approach, music and technical elements. On the flip side, the second half should have been more arresting. On a whole, Gundello Godari is a brave and sensible effort from Lakshmi Manchu.

Final View:

Gundello Godari, sure does, goes off the beaten track. Like the river Godari, it looks beautiful but unlike the river, this movie lacks depth. An interesting romantic track in the first part of movie, good cinematography, and Tapsee’s charm are submerged by the lethargic second half. Yet, watch it for the commendable effort.
