Akash Chopra and Arshad Warsi New Bollywood Film Rabba Main Kya Karoon Hindi Movie Review:
For long Hindi cinema has seen various actors playing the love gurus. So much so that we have unabashedly even copied Hollywood flicks like Hitch in the name of Partner etc. But filmmaker Amrit Sagar who last made the national award winning 1971 gives love gurus a certain twist and places them in the post marriage phase.
So you have a boy named Saahil (Akash Chopra), who is head over heels in love with Sneha (Tahira Kochchar). The couple finally decides to get married in true Indian style-with lots of guests, food and pomp. But Saahil’s wicked elder brother Shravan (Arshad Warsi) tries to teach the secret of a successful marriage to the innocent, loyal Saahil. Shravan tries every bit to push Saahil on the wrong path and make him cheat on his girlfriend Sneha, with whom he is soon to get married. Despite initial hesitation, Sahil boards the cheat wagon starts following Shravan’s advice which in turn have hilarious consequences. Shravan is aided in this mission by other relatives, played by Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor. Whether he ultimately follows his elder brother’s footsteps to the T or not is what follows through the rest of the plot.
As for the performances, Arshad Warsi in his usual comic self is a delight to watch the probably the lone saving grace of this movie. While Paresh Rawal too adds the slight comic relief that you get once in a while in this otherwise mundane story. Akash and Tahira are both pleasant to the eyes but do not manage to give impressive performances. Riya Sen is average at best.
Technical and Other Departments:
Cinematographer Aseem Bajaj shoots the festivities with restrained gusto. Amrit Sagar is fully in control of the comic chaos in this big fat eventful shaadi. Music is Avarage.
Filmmaker Amrit Sagar has a one line plot which had ample potential to turn into a rib-tickler however courtesy shoddy scripting and unfunny gags, he loses the plot. He conviniently places his film in the Punjabi setting trying hard to aide his story with the loud milieu of pomp and show. However, the film only ends up appearing chauvanistic preaching about things that men can easily get away with.
So while the comedy of this particular rom-com fizzles out, even the romantic part fails to do justice for the newcomers Akash Chopra and Tahira Kochchar both disappoint in bringing out any chemistry between them whatsoever.
Overall, Rabba Main Kya Karoon had ample scope to dole out hilarious gags but it fails in the hands of a disappointing filmmaker. Watch the film only for Arshad Warsi.
