Amjad Ali Khan Biography:
Amjad Ali Khan was born October 9, 1945, at a place called Gwalior located in Madhya Pradesh. His father Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan was a court musician of the royal family Gwalior. He was trained by the descendants of Miyan Tansen, who is considered the best musician of all time.
Amjad Ali Khan was the youngest son of his family. His first guardian was his father and he started playing at a very young age. At the age of twelve, Amjad Ali Khan gave his first concert as a soloist. The rest, as they say, is history. It is his love for the instrument and his passion for music that has made him famous and recognized as one of Sarod’s best players.
Amjad Ali Khan has contributed a lot to the field of classical music. He plays sarod with his fingers instead of his fingers. This gives a clear bell sound and is also the most difficult technique to use in sarod. This innovative technique involves many ragas like Kiran’s own Ranjani, Haripriya Canada, Shivanjali Shri Shyam, Suhag Bhairav, Lalit Dhwani Amiri Todi, Jawahar Manjari and Bapukauns.
He has also won international acclaim in the composition of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. It was titled “Tribute to Hong Kong”. Other musicians who participated in this project were guitarist Charley Byrd, violinist Igor Frolov, Supra Glenda Simpson, Barry Mason and guitarist British cellist Matthew Barley.
He also starred in Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Kennedy Center, Lower House, Singapore, Mozart Hall in Frankfurt, Chicago Symphony Center, St James Palace and Opera House in Australia. The talented musician received honorary citizenship in the states of Texas, Massachusetts, Tennessee and the city of Atlanta.
Amjad Ali Khan is the first artist from northern India who acted in honor of St. Thyagaraja in the sanctuary of Thiruvaiyur. He has also received numerous awards, including Padmashree Award, Sangeet Natak Academy, Tansen Award, UNESCO, UNICEF National Ambassador, Padma Bhushan, Prize International Music Forum, etc.
Amjad Ali Khan has two sons who promise sarod player. The heritage will stay alive.
