Kunal Ganjawala was born on April 14, 1972, and graduated from the San Pedro School in Mazagaon. Kunal wanted to become a CA (Public Accountant) or actor, but his parents’ support allowed him to become a singer.
In 2005 he married his compatriot Gayatri Iyer. They performed all the main song of Antakshari, Starks, a staunch supporter of Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
His big hit, Bheegey Hont by Murder, won the 2005 Zee Cinema Award for Best Male Singer. He sang four songs in Saawariya directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is his cousin. He also participated in Sa Re Ga Ma, a competition of Indian vocal talent on Zee TV (now Sa Re Ga Ma Pa) at the time when it was presented by Sonu Nigam.
He was recently a judge at the Amul Star Voice of India, another singing contest on Star TV, with Shreya Ghosal holding it and Pritam.
Kunal entered the film industry in 2002 with the film Ab Ke Baras. In just four years he has established himself as one of the best Bollywood singers. With Hindi songs, Kunal entered the Kannada film industry in 2005.
As a child, Kunal never thought of becoming a singer. He knew only at the university that he could sing. Since then he has started singing at all university festivals and has won many competitions within and between universities.
His first break in Bollywood From Ke Baras was in 2002. Since then Kunal has worked for many music directors such as Anu Malik, Pritam, Himesh Reshammiya, Ismail Darbar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Anand Raaj Anand, Roop Kumar Rathod, Daboo Malik and Sanjeev Darshan.
His song in Hindi Murder’s “Bheege Honth Tere,” which was a great success, gave him a great success and the name B in the city and across the country, continuing with another fabulous performance. This song also won several awards this year, including a 2005 Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer Award.
His song “Channa Ve Ghar aa jaa” a Punjabi album “Channa Ve” DJ Anit was a big hit to add to his fame.
In 2007, he took on a concert tour in North America entitled “The Incredibles”, also with Asha Bhosle, Sonu Nigam, and Kailash Kher.
On April 3, 2009, he appeared at the RECSTACY, the annual cultural event of NIT-DURGAPUR.
