Mahalakshmi Iyer Biography:
Mahalakshmi Iyer was born with talent and debuted in her singing career and sang in 1997 a song in the hit movie Dus. She then joined Shankar Ehsaan Loy and A.R. Rahman and began to sing for the films.
Her notable work has been in many blockbuster movies like Dhoom 2, Fanaa, Ta Rum Pum and many others. Not only did she work for the Bollywood film industry, she also contributed to the South Indian cinema. This versatile singer has also won numerous awards for her magical voice in the Indian film and music industry.
Mahalakshmi comes from a musical family. Her mother is a classical Carnatic singer. She started to learn Hindustan music early on, like her three sisters Arpana, Padmini and Shobha. Iyer grew up in Mumbai and graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, where she took classes to perfect the Urdu language and hide any trace of the Southern accent.
Mahalakshmi Iyer is an Indian Tamil singer who is best known for her Hindu and Tamil songs. She has sung over a thousand songs in many Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Assamese, Kannada and Malayalam.
Mahalakshmi made her vocal debut with A R Rahman in Dil Se (1998) by Mani Ratnam. She also recorded for the movie Dus, which was the beginning of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy as music directors. Later, she continued to work with them frequently.
Since then she has sung more than a thousand songs in movies, serial jingles, and original albums. she has been part of several successful bands such as Kashmir Mission, Yaadein, and Saathiya and has collaborated with some of the most well-known music composers such as Rahman R, Anu Malik, Jatin-Lalit, and others.
she also sang for all the great success of Yash Raj Productions such as Dhoom 2, Bunty Aur Babli, Salaam Namaste and Fanaa, and the most successful albums as Ra Rum Pum Ta and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.
Throughout her career she has been known for her performances on songs such as Kabhi Sham Dhales Sur: The Melody of Life (2002), Har Taraf by Rishtey (2002) and hits like Chup Chup Ke Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Aaj Ki Raat by Don (2006) and Bol Na Halke Halke by Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.
In the movie Slumdog Millionaire (2008) she also sang the Oscar-winning song “Jai Ho” to A. R. Rahman.
