Shreya Ghoshal Biography:
Shreya Ghoshal is an Indian singer. She played several songs in Bollywood, regional films and also for Indian soaps like Kasturi. Besides Hindi, she also sang songs in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu.
Shreya Ghoshal was born into a Bengali Brahmin family. She grew up in Rawatbhata, a small town near Kota, Rajasthan. Her father works as a nuclear power engineer for the Nuclear Power Corporation in India at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center while her mother studies graduate literature.
From the age of four Ghoshal accompanied her mother on the harmonium. Her parents studied classical Hindustani music education in Kota with Maheshandra Sharma.
She studied at the Central Atomic Energy Schools (AECS) in Kota and Anushaktinagar (Mumbai). At the end, she enrolled at the SIES College of Arts Stream.
As a child, she won the children’s episode of the Sa Re Ga Ma competition on Zee TV. At that time, the show was presented by the now famous singer Sonu Niigaam. Kalyanji, who also competed, convinced her parents to move to Mumbai. She trained with him for 18 months and continued his classical music education with Mukta Bhide in Mumbai.
She drew the attention of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali when she took part in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa for the second time, this time against adults. In 2000, it was the opportunity to be the voice of Paro, the protagonist of her film Devdas, which was played by Aishwarya Rai. Shreya sang five songs in the movie.
Moviegoers around the world heard Ghoshal’s voice singing in Aishwarya Rai, and quickly became one of the best singers in Bollywood, alongside Alka Yagnik, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sadhana Sargam and Kavita Krishnamurthy. This song earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Singer of the Year as well as Prize RD Burman, given the upcoming musical talent in the same ceremony.
She has sung for many other actresses under the direction of several music directors, including Anu Malik, Himesh Reshammiya, MM Kreem Nadeem-Shravan, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Pritam, Vishal Shekhar, Mano Murthy, Gurukiran, Ilayaraja, AR Rahman, Yuvan Shankar Raja and Harris Jayaraj. Ghosal has completed her college education and plans to continue her master’s degree in literature. She loves symphony and plays a role in western music and her favorite band is ABBA. But Indian music is definitely his soul. Her voice has a texture that fits romantic songs and can project the voice very well (a good example is “Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai” by Jism).
